Manila Before WW II | A Documentary Video

I do not have the slightest idea on how Manila, the Philippines' premier capital, looked like sometime more than 70 years ago…but I often wonder how.

Written stories, documented history and images were not enough to quench my thirst for the same.

Finally, I chanced upon a “motion picture” that somehow satisfied my curiosity. It acted as a window and showed me the soul I was yearning to visualize.

See it for yourself and be inspired…

  1. A very interesting piece of history preserved in cinematography. Although wobbly, I thank you for sharing this with us. It makes us wonder the more what could be life like during that era.

  4. I once have seen a video of the Fort and some pictures from a museum and I was enthralled at how pretty it was. Now it's ravished by time and the modern development. We just lost a lot of history because of our own neglect. Sad thing.

  5. Yeah, I agree with you, Maricris. Despite availability of modern infrastructural engineering and technology, urban development in greater Manila seems to be going in a “different” direction.

Although I read elsewhere that there are many programs being undertaken to avoid further regression, I believe it would not be that hard to reconstruct or even make Manila look a lot better than it used to be if everyone would participate and take part in all these efforts.

It is possible…but it is all up to us.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

  11. It only looked “good”, I believe, because it was cleaner back then, Health Assistant.

There are, apparently, many plans leading to the rehabilitation of Manila, which we all should be looking forward. Perhaps, if personal time and resources allow, we, Filipinos, should also participate in our own “little way” to make all these efforts workable. With this picture in mind, I guess, nothing is impossible. We can make Manila look better and great, again.

    What do you think?
